Calasanz with Student

You Tuber:

He is fit ! but his ego is directly connected to his fist and feet ! humility is the sign of a true warrior ! and the don’t shout look at me aren’t I great ! jack of all master of non I’m afraid !

Response:

If humility is the sign of a true warrior, then I suppose jealousy isn’t. Mr. Calasanz is a true warrrior because he had the courage to leave his native country and take risks. He chose to use his energy to become a success, instead of sitting at his computer trying to demean people who are actually doing something with their lives.

Some Martial Artists are Like Religious Fanatics

You Tuber:

I have an important perception about this video. It’s a simple thing: this man in this video is very clever and you are very “stupid”. And yes I could learn something from him, but this is yet my business:) By the way the problem is not his own style…the problem is that is not W.C but the name is yes, and this is unfair!!!

Response:

Thanks for your comment. Calasanz has taken traditional styles and added his own unique approach. We appreciate your keen eye and understanding that martial arts evolve over time to suit the needs of the populace. As in religion, some martial artists are fundamentalists and cannot imagine that even the martial arts have to change with the times. We also respect you for being adult enough to admit that you could actually learn something from someone else, a great sign of maturity on your part. Best of luck.

Yellow Belt Test Sparring Evaluation

You Tuber:

What is this really?
I don’t get whats the point with this video.

Response:

The video is entitled “Hard Sparring Evaluation Test” so if we must explain the obvious, it is a belt evaluation test of a white belt testing for yellow. What makes it notable is that the man trained hard for 2 months, never having taken a martial arts class in his life and is actually holding his own.

Martial Arts Conditioning Vs. Bodybuilding

You Tuber:

Not stupid movement, that movement is work almost all of your muscle from upper to bottom, so It’s good. That is martial arts dude, not, bodybuilding. They train muscle, strength , flex and control

Response:

Thanks for your comment. We appreciate your understanding of Calasanz holistic exercises. Please understand that there are people who just come to Calasanz for physical conditioning rather than going to a traditional gym because they get a better workout at his dojo with exercises such as these. You are right. This is not bodybuilding, which most people, in particularly women are not interested in.

Use Dance to Improve Your Martial Arts/Fighting Footwork

Comment On You Tube Profile:

It’s really you in the videos, I think you are real master , very gud….. amaze me. some people said it is dance, but they forgot, martial arts is like a dance, and they are know nothing about it, bruce lee it’s a good dancer that’s why he have a good foot work. Keep the good work bro , two thumbs for you

Response:

Thank you for your comment and your accurate assessments. Dance is a great art to study if you want to improve your footwork and fluidity. For years, football players for example have been studying dance to improve their movements and gain flexibility. We know a local dance school that has traditionally trained teen football players to prepare them for the fall season. The ignorant will mock this and the intelligent will understand it.

Training to be a Fighter

You Tuber:

im a mma fighter, will calasanz hell me out with mma training to one day get in the ufc?? im serious, this is my life long goal

Response:

When come to help, Calasanz love to help any fighter that want to make it there.
Here is his email address
calasanz01@aol.com email him here and figure out when you are available, if you are far away from where he is still he can help you.
Hard strike, power striking, power stances, balance, grounding (don’t go to the ground but if you do then fight on the ground), learn how to fight very well standing then learn the ground that make you even better. These are some of the Calasanz ideas and basic concepts.

Make sure that you give, with your body and your chin, give with your chin when being punched. Give with your body, don’t take unnecessary punches and kicks, avoid punishment, avoid unnecessary punishment.
Train in a way that you are doing more than your opponent, that is a good and smart way for winning, for example if everybody kicking, punching, shadow boxing, sparring, eating well etc., if you are doing the same is okay but there is not so much of an advantage, the word are STAY AHEAD OF YOUR OPPONENT WHILE TRAINING.

Calasanz Studied Wooden Dummy with Moyat While You Were a Child!

Criticism from a young man, who says he studied with the Moyat family.

You Tuber:

stay vertical! hunching toward the target his chin is dangerously close to the wooden arms. there are many deviations from the old school form here. what is the raspy grunting about?

Response:

Thank you for your observations. Calasanz is well aware of the distance between his chin and the wooden dummy arms. Calasanz doesn’t play “patty cake” with the dummy but likes to get a good workout on it, which sometimes means that he may use unconventional movements. As for the “raspy grunting,” it is just a deep exhalation and this is his signature sound, which is nothing earth shattering in the martial arts. We will take your comments under advisement given the fact that while you may have studied with the Moyat Family, Calasanz trained with Moyat in Chinatown back when you were just a child.

What’s Style is Calasanz Goju Ryu Karate?

You Tuber:

hey, which goju ryu style is this? i take yosei goju ryu style here in florida, but it’s sort of like the nisei goju ryu style, there’s not that much diffrentation. and i’ve seen this kata before. it was a while back, but when you put it with some speed and emotion, it looks good

Response:

Thanks for your positive feedback. Calasanz teaches his own style known as the Calasanz System, so what you’re seeing is a hybrid. It contains influences from Goju Ryu, Wing Chun, Chinese and American Boxing and physical conditioning techniques. Calasanz studied Goju Ryu under Tameyoshi Sakamoto, father of Goju Ryu in the Dominican Republic, back in the 70’s, so the katas are based on the principles that he learned from his teacher as well as his own interpretations.

Pass By Techniques, Sparring without Brutality

Hitting someone doesn’t take a lot of skill. Hitting a well trained moving target takes skill, but passing by someones head at full speed without hitting them, without hurting them, but certainly sending a message of what could have been…takes the most skill:

What’s Up with the Growling? Or is it Breathing?

Comment left on You Tube page:

Are you Calasanz? why do you growl with your throat? and how many people practice your art?

Answer:

Thank you for your inquiry. The “growling” is Calasanz signature breathing. He’s not just using the throat, but the exhalation comes from the depths of the diaphragm. While Calasanz views many comments, most of them are addressed by Calasanz’ staff members. Calasanz has been in business for close to thirty years and thousands of students have trained in the Calasanz System during this period. The school is still going strong and welcomes new and returning students on a daily basis. Martial arts are a tough business and it is much to Calasanz credit that he has been successful for so long.
